Master's License
|
As a result of their decision to extend their leasing business to include captained charters internationally in near-coastal waters, the master's license was now a requirement. So, Owen went back to school to short circuit the Coast Guard time required for governmental paperwork while at the same time brushing up on his knowledge. He attended SeaSchool's
four intensive courses given both in Orlando, Florida, and St. Thomas in the
U.S. Virgin Islands. | The formal coursework included: (1) Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) that covers the elements for legal and safe operation of vessels at sea; (2) the upgrade of the OUPV to a 50-ton Master's license; STCW-95, Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping that covers
basic firefighting, personal survival, personal safety/social responsibility, and elementary first aid; the endorsement for Auxiliary Sail that covers the additional knowledge required to operate a sailing vessel. |
